South African racer David Perel and his Italian co-driver Mirko Zanardini head to Mugello’s fourth round Italian GT Cup races Saturday 11 July fully intent to increase their Peresoft Bonaldi Lamborghini Gallardo’s championship lead in the series.
Capetonian Perel came away from the previous round with a his first pole position, a race 2 win and the fastest lap of the race at Imola and the duo fully intends maintaining that momentum at Mugello. “I cannot put into words how happy I am after Imola,” Perel explained. “That was a crucial win for our championship aspirations and now Mirko and I are out to keep that winning momentum on the roll at Mugello.”
Perel, who remained in Italy between the races, has spent premium time keeping himself sharp by driving many laps on a kart and in working in race simulators. “We used a highly advanced race simulator to prepare for the coming weekend,” David explained. “Mugello is a beautiful track – I can’t wait to drive it.”
Mugello is a sinuous and challenging circuit in the Tuscan hills north of Florence with a long and fast straight where the Peresoft Obox Bonaldi Lamborghini Gallardo will not only make best use of its top speed, but it will also exploit its handling advantages. “We are ready for the weekend,” Perel concluded about his first racing visit to Mugello. “Bring it on!”
