This weekend I’m heading to Belgium to take part in the third round of the Blancpain Sprint Series!
Despite originally being scheduled to only complete in the Blancpain Endurance Cup, I received a late call from my 2016 team mate Stephen Earle to partner him in the remainder of the Sprint Championship.
We will be driving in the same car that I won the Gulf 12 Hour race in, a Ferrari 458 GT3 run by my team Kessel Ferrari.
Stephen and I met last year when we shared a car in the Blancpain Endurance Series. However half-way through the year we switched to the Sprint format and won right away.
I never expected to race with ‘The Doc’ in 2017 but when himself and Kessel called me up to head to Belgium I wasn’t going to say no. I’m actually quite excited about it, I love the sprint race format as I get to drive the car a lot more prior to the race.
This will be my first time at the Zolder race track which is a tight and undulating circuit that is more old-school with gravel and grass run off areas, as opposed to the smooth F1 circuits raced on in the Endurance Cup.
It’s been a while since I got to experience a new track so I’ve been studying and practicing as much as possible on Playstation and YouTube. Let’s hope it’s enough. A big thanks to Stephen, Kessel and Alan Macdonald for making this happen.
Racing gets underway on Saturday with a Qualifying Race that lasts for one hour. Sunday is the Main Race which counts for maximum points and is also one hour long. You can watch all the action live via YouTube.com/GTWorld.
