Shut Up. I'm Talking.
I'm David Perel, co-Founder of Obox Design. I make things. Don’t expect anything of what I say to make sense. You can stalk me on twitter or be inspired on dribbble.
Took me a few weeks to get right but I have finally got my very own design rocking on DavidPerel.net.
I went minimal because that is how I roll 90% of the time. All my inspiration came from a book called ‘43rd Publication Design Annual’ by SPD. The book features magazine designs including covers, articles, infographics etc. It is gold and inspired everything on this site.
I went through about 20 design variations in Fireworks which I will show you next week and found I was going nowhere very fast. I kept changing everything and not liking anything.
Eventually I said ‘screw it’ and went straight to CSS and used the designs in FW as inspiration. I learned about a Firefox flaw with @font-face which I’ll also get into next week. That was super frustrating and resulted in a few hours of toil but I eventually found a work around. Ideally you should view this site in Safari or Chrome.
The logo at the top is meant to be a mic and that popped into my brain about 2hrs before going live. I dig it
Fonts used (in Chrome and Safari) are:
I used the Pictoico icon set as well as the Simply Bold set from IconDock. In both instances I modified them a bit and tried my best to sharpen them up.
There may be one or two loose ends but in general I am stoked (happy) with this design and I think it will stick around for at least a short while. I need to style chats and audio and once that is done you will find this theme in the Obox Theme directory (just another reason to become a member).
I hope you dig the design if not @obox me and tell me why.
